Homeschooling in Alabama: __________________________________________________________________ In Alabama, very few of us actually Homeschool. So, You ask, "What am I doing?" You are CHURCH schooling.
By Law, Homeschooling is the Public school's Tutor law. That is when a public school student cannot make it to normal classes for what ever reason, and the county to which they reside sends out a government paid tutor to teach the student at home...HOMESCHOOLING. The only other people that 'could' use the tutor law are public school teachers who want to teach their own children. Most of them still use the Church school cover laws instead of the tutor laws due to all the red tape, paperwork, and regulations of government education.
By Law, You need a church covering located in Alabama. The Alabama Law states in section 16-28-1 that the term Church School shall mean: Such schools that offer K-12 or any combination thereof (including Kindergarten, Elementary and Secondary) AND are operated as a MINISTRY of a Local Church, A group of Churches, a Denomination and/or an Association of churches AND on a nonprofit basis, which do NOT receive ANY State or Federal funding.
Interpret it yourself with the Alabama Codes of 1975 Search it on ALIS or see how others have interpreted it Below. HSLDA pdf file (2005-2006) ___________________________________
